turkey day

Tagged:

After work today, we're off to Connecticut for a long Thanksgiving holiday. Tomorrow we're going to Long Island for Thanksgiving dinner and after that we'll be spending our time going out to see friends or spend time with my family. Friday night we're going to Michael Jordan's Steakhouse at Mohegan Sun, which ought to be fun as Marissa has never been to the Steakhouse or the casino. We fly back Sunday night but it will be nice being up there, I think. The weather will be predictably cold, but no snow in the forecast. Tonight will be the first time since February that I've worn a coat.

I'm looking forward to some good food during Thanksgiving and loading up on turkey and everything else I can find. To everyone, have a happy Thanksgiving!

At work today we had an open house for the company, which basically meant we had friends of the company over for a ribbon cutting ceremony, followed by a catered breakfast/lunch. It was nicely done and I'm never one to complain about free food so it was a good deal all around.

This is hilarious. Watch the right side of the screen about 40 seconds into the video

My weekend, as I expected, was quite slow. I didn't do a whole lot of anything and mostly relaxed and I enjoyed it. I'm really looking forward to a nice short week this week and I'm really looking forward to my cruise in just two weeks. It should be a good time all around and it will be a nice change of pace to get out from here.

No update on the rental car situation. I plan on checking prices again today but I think my hopes of a last minute sale on prices isn't going to happen, unfortunately. I just hate to pay like $40/day for a stupid basic economy class rental car, especially when I know next week the price will be about half that. Stupid supply and demand economy! Damn you Adam Smith!

slow weekend ahead

It's Friday and that means it's time for the weekend! This weekend ought to be a little slow since Marissa is working both Saturday and Sunday so I'll be doing much of nothing. It's fine with me because I have some new games to play and going out usually involves spending money but it will suck not having her around in the long run. When I'm by myself for such a long time, I usually lose my social graces because I'm not used to communicating with other humans. Alas, I'll find a way.

To be honest, part of me actually wants to get past this weekend soon because I'm really looking forward to flying up to Connecticut for Thanksgiving. While I'm not looking forward to flying, I am excited to seeing the family and having a lot of great food. I think it will be a very nice time so I'm hoping for this weekend to hurry up :)

unmotivated

Today is my gym day but honestly, I'm finding it harder and harder to motivate myself to go to the gym. I know it's good for me and all but I'm not sure why I have such an issue getting the motivation to actually go. I think it has to do with basically the fact that during the workout, I always get all exhausted and sweaty. The thing is, when I go to a real gym when I'm out of town, I'm always gung-ho about it. Perhaps it has to do with the gym I go to since I go to our apartment complex gym, which has like 2 treadmills (one of which sounds like it will explode any minute), a bike, an elliptical and a weight machine (not sure what it's official name is). I usually go on the treadmill, where I nearly have a heart attack because I push myself so much. My alternative is to go on the elliptical, but that takes twice as long to burn the amount of calories and I don't want to spend hours at the gym, especially when it's already around 7pm at night. The gym is pretty ghetto, but then again it's free so that's why we go. At any rate, I know I have to go tonight but I'm already dreading it.

Lucky dog and lucky guy

This is just too weird not to mention....

"A miracle pup clung to a speeding car for more than 15 miles after being knocked down.

The motorist, Marco Menozzi, didn’t even stop when he mowed down the one-year-old pooch while doing 70mph on a side road in Cozze, southern Italy.

But he hit the dog so hard he was embedded in the grill under the bonnet of the Peugeot 207 and managed to cling on until the car eventually stopped."

This is the luckiest guy ever. Don't know if this has ever been beat, but this is one crazy outcome for this guy on the Price is Right

Ewwwwww...

Last night we went to Don Pablo's because we had a free entree coupon and since Marissa doesn't eat an entree, it was a great deal. You really can't beat $6 for dinner for two. We've been stingy with our money lately but this deal was just too good to pass up so we went for it. Now it's back to eating whatever we have in our apartment and that's it.

another boring weekend

Wish I had something fun and interesting to write here of stories from the weekend but I really don't. After work on Friday, Marissa and I went to the Turf Club for dinner with Josh and Sarah and had a good meal there and saw the shuttle launch, which was nifty. We had bolder ambitions to see the night launch from a better spot but dinner took longer than we thought and we had to settle for the spot we found. It was still cool to see, but next time we ought to get a better spot.

Saturday we basically hung around the apartment and did little of nothing. We ran a few errands but mostly sat at home and were mostly bored. I can handle sitting at home and doing nothing but I know it bothers Marissa, yet there really is not much to do if you don't want to spend any money so it's a difficult situation to be in. Marissa worked on Sunday so I spent my afternoon trying to get Battlefield 2 to work, as I had lost the CD and the game refused to work without it. Let's just say I was successful despite not finding the CD.

The big issue before us now is what to do about Thanksgiving. Rental car prices are just absurd and we're trying to figure out something that will be reasonable for a car rental. I looked into taxis but that was a joke so we're back to looking for a car rental under $200 for the 4 days. The problem is we are renting for 4 days and a weekend rental is only 3 days and a week rental is 5 days so we're in this stupid spot where there are no good deals.

20 days until the Disney Cruise!

i got nothing

Nothing to write. I live a boring life. Check back tomorrow

This was too funny to pass up so here's a quick story from work today. We were discussing musical taste and I brought up Mötley Crüe. One of my coworkers, had no idea who Mötley Crüe was. This is a dramatization of how the conversation went...

Me: ...Mötley Crüe.
Her: Who?
Me: You know.....Mötley Crüe....80's band?
Her: No, I never heard of them
Me: Do you know who Tommy Lee is?
Her:....Tommy Lee Jones?

All I can say is quite clearly the educational system in this country needs improvement. It was quite funny to hear.
