my new favorite movie

Over the weekend I saw a movie I hadn't seen in a few years, called "Wet Hot American Summer". It's basically a spoof of 80's summer camp movies, without being all that spoofy. Here's the trailer...

It's one of those classic movies where it's a lot of smart ass humor involved. It came out like 7 or 8 years ago and I saw it back then and liked it but I saw it again with Marissa and I rediscovered how great it is. Go find a copy of it and watch it because it's that good.

yes, i am weird

So I have this weird hangup about taking showers in the morning. Basically, I don't like taking showers in the morning. I just don't like the feeling of taking a shower when I'm tired. For some reason, I feel like I can feel every drop of water and it's not enjoyable for me. I know, weird.

It all started in middle school, when I decided that because I was going to middle school that I would start showering in the morning because it's what adults do. So I would wake up 20-30 minutes earlier and go shower. The problem was I hated it. I was more tired than before and the whole time I'd just be in the shower wishing I was still asleep. So after a little while I gave it up and went back to showering at night and haven't looked back. Occasionally I'll have to shower in the morning for something that day but if I can avoid it, I do.

So there you have it....a look into my mind. Not sure if there are any other anti-morning-shower people out there but thought I'd throw that out there because I was thinking about it over the weekend.

the rules of summer

Okay, it's official now. I hereby declare that summer has begun in Florida. We've had a string of days with 90+ degree highs and I think at this point any "cold front" would simply mean temps dropping to like a high of 80 something, so for all intents and purposes, it's summer. This means I will refer to Matt Summer Operating Procedures and that basically entails the following...

  1. Thou shall embrace air conditioning wherever possible and take shelter in thy a/c
  2. If thou should find thyself outside, thou shalt seek shade and refer back to procedure number 1
  3. Thou shall limit all outdoor activity to before 11am and after 7pm
  4. Thou shall blast air conditioning to ensure survival of thyself
  5. Thou shall roll thy sleeves up to thy shoulders to create "dude sleeves"
  6. Thou shall assume the "Superman position" when standing outside: legs spread apart, hands on hips and arms out to ensure the least possible contact between thy skin
  7. Thou shall carry a small towel around to wipe away sweat when it develops in a futile attempt to control sweating
  8. When all else fails, refer to procedure number 1

it even has walls

Yesterday Marissa and I decided to go check out the progress on our house as earlier in the week, we were told that they would be pouring the foundation. Well, they certainly did do that and a lot more. We discovered not only foundation laid but also four walls erected! We were surprised, to say the least. We can basically see where the garage door, front door and windows are. Even our patio floor has been set. It's kind of exciting and nerve wracking at the same time. You can see a picture of the house here.

At some point soon we'll need to meet with our landlord to discuss options about moving out early. Not sure if it's going to be better which date we'd want to move out by and see what they think.
