to party or not to party, that is the question

After reading yesterday's post about my phone, things turned out alright for me. In the afternoon I brought the phone into the Verizon store and told them that it wouldn't turn on (which is true). I neglected to mention that it wouldn't turn on because I dropped it but they were more preoccupied with checking to make sure I hadn't dropped it in water. My dead phone must have traveled between 3 different employees and each checked for water damage so let it be a lesson that if you bust your phone on the pavement it's no big deal but if you let any moisture near it, it's as good as gone. So 40 minutes later I had myself a brand new (and scratch free) phone.

On Sunday it's the super bowl and I've been contemplating inviting some friends over to watch and have a mini-super bowl party. There are two main problems to doing this. First, hosting a party will require a fairly large financial commitment because we'd have to buy booze and food for the party goers. Second, and more importantly, I'm afraid after one quarter of the game, I'll be bored of the game and want to play video games but be stuck hosting the party. The way I see it currently is that there'll be no party and I'll watch the game with Marissa at home.

Aside from dreams of a super bowl party, this weekend is kind of up in the air. We have about 3 different friends coming down (or are here already) for this weekend, yet we have no plans with any of them. Basically we're going to be waiting by our phones for a call and go from there. Marissa isn't working at all this weekend so who knows what we may end up doing.

obama and other stuff

Yesterday was Obama's inauguration and we watched the inauguration ceremony at work. It was pretty cool and I'm sure the first inauguration I actually watched live and the first one I even cared about. As much as I liked Clinton, I never really cared about inauguration stuff. It was pretty interesting to watch. That being said, the parade was a snooze fest and the ball was completely dumb. Aside from the 5 minutes of dancing, the musical acts were dumb and un-necessary. It felt like I was watching the stupid musical acts that are pre-taped during New Years Eve.

Today I have to drive to the gym after work to cancel my membership. $40 per month per person is too much and I'm still in the first month window to cancel so I will and get a refund. Short of them offering me like $20/month deal, I'm gone. This weekend I'll swing over to Planet Fitness and try them out since they have a $10/month deal which is far more reasonable although I'm sure it will be a real dump.

Congrats to Eric and Cathy as Cathy's water broke this morning. It got me thinking about what if Marissa was going into labor this morning and it's really freaky to think about putting me in those shoes. Obviously if you're expecting a child, you have about 9 months to mentally prepare but I've never really thought about it before to that extent. I can't imagine the sort of different thoughts going through their heads. Anywho, congrats and good luck!

a change (back) at work

Earlier this week, I mentioned how this week at work we switched from 9-5 to 8:30-5:30. Well as of today, we're back to 9-5. Evidently I was not the only one annoyed by the change and the change wasn't sitting well with most of us and we also weren't any more productive than before the change so we switched back as of today and I love the change back. The only thing that is different now is instead of a full hour for lunch, we only get 30 minutes but I'm so willing to make that compromise. I'm glad the owner saw the issue and remedied it and quite honestly it's made us all a little happier and happy workers and busy workers. Besides, now I'll have less traffic to deal with and I get to sleep an extra half hour and I get home earlier. If you can't tell, I'm happy about this change.

After work today I'm going with Marissa to the gym for a nice workout. I'm looking forward to it because I do like the gym and I feel motivated to exercise and (hopefully) drop some weight. Plus there's the whole get into shape idea.

This weekend we don't have any firm plans. My friend will be in town for the Disney Marathon so we'll likely be hanging out with him but other than that, no other plans to speak of and that's fine with me. I always enjoy quiet weekends.

One last note, my lovely wife has asked me to build her a blog because she too wants to share her random thoughts with the world. She once had a blog a number of years ago but stopped writing in it because her dad used it to spy on her but I guess she's ready to give it another shot so feel free to stop by and see what's on her mind at her blog and say hello.

mmmm....schwarma!

Last night we spent some time visiting friends who were in town and had pizza in their hotel room and generally hung out. The great thing about living in Orlando is sooner or later, many of our friends come into town for business or pleasure and it's nice to be see friends as often as we do despite not really living near any of them. So the lesson to be learned here is if you're going to move away, move somewhere where your friends are likely to go anyway on their own for one reason or another.

Yesterday at work we had some Arab food and it was good to have some again. When I lived in New York, Spock and I used to go to this restaurant that was owned by a nice Arab (I think he was Egyptian) and he made some killer sandwiches and they were pretty cheap. We used to then take these sandwiches to City Hall park and eat them but all of the sauces and such in them would run all over and we'd make a huge mess. So having my schwarma platter yesterday kind of reminded me of that.

26 days until the Disney cruise!

Goodbye work

Today is my last day of work until October 1st, thanks to this little thing I call a honeymoon (and yea, wedding too). Way back when we were planning our days off to take, I insisted on working on Wednesday in some misplaced noble notion about being responsible. I really wish I had listened to Marissa and taken today off. With my folks in town and others starting to filter in today, I wish I was back home to enjoy. I thought about calling in sick or emailing my boss to tell him I was taking today off or any other means of leaving here early but what's done is done and I'll stick with my decision, even if I'm lamenting it right now.

Tonight we have dinner plans at Jiko, which is evidently my family's favorite restaurant at Walt Disney World. There is such good food there and I really enjoy eating there and personally I'm glad that there is somewhere on Disney property that still makes the rest of my family want to actually go.

Speaking of Disney, John & Carrie (and their kids and parents) are flying in today and I'll be meeting them after work today to spend some time with in the parks. I believe they are going to Epcot so I'll hang out with them for a bit until they have to go to dinner and then get across property to meet my family for dinner. I wish I had more time to spend with the Heaths in the parks but they know the deal with the wedding and certainly whatever time I can get in with them, I'll take.

Last night we went out to Bucca di beppo with Marissa's parents and we shared a rather large (very) thin crust pizza. I was surprised by how good it was (that or I'm getting used to bad Florida pizza) and we did a little shopping in the mall as well. Afterwards, Marissa and I met my parents for dinner at Key W. Kools and had the mahi-mahi, which wasn't bad either (yes, I did have two dinners last night). With the way this week has started off in terms of dining, I fully expect to weigh 350 lbs by the time I return from my cruise.
