stupid news

Okay, this swine flu thing is getting really annoying. Let's look at some facts....swine flu is no worse than the "normal" strain of the flu. There are drugs out there that will shorten the duration of the effects the flu has. There's a handful of people in a few states that actually have it. Yet we are treating this like thousands are dying and it's something out of "28 Days Later".

The news media is LOVING this and while they make it seem like the impending doom of mankind at the hand of influenza, the reality is IT'S NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL. There are far bigger issues to deal with, like the economy, and the news is just doing everything they can to scare us. It's quite ridiculous and I have no doubt that they are creating much more fear and worry about this than is necessary. My favorite is here in Florida, where until now, there have been no cases of swine flu, yet the news constantly reports long segments on the fact that swine flu isn't here yet. That's like reporting no one has been murdered today and then going on and on about how someone COULD be murdered today...it's a non-story!

so annoying

Sometimes I just get so frustrated with things and tonight was one of those nights. First, I tried to charge my A/C in my car after getting directions from my dad but for some strange reason I could not get the stupid thing to stay connected to my car and it royally annoyed me. It's the kind of annoyance where you know things should be working but they aren't and you can't seem to figure out what's wrong. I just gave up, slammed the hood and threw the stupid can into the ground and it made me feel a little better. After, my fingers were covered in the stupid gunk and as a result my hands were all numb and it just added to my already annoyed mood.

On better news, I felt like I was very productive at work today. I got a lot done and I even impressed myself with a particular issue I figured out. I left work feeling good and like things are going well with the project I'm working on.

i'm still around

I realize I haven't written in a while but I've been generally unmotivated to write in here for whatever reason. At first it was just because I had nothing to write about but soon after I just couldn't motivate myself to write in here. Maybe because nothing exciting is going on beyond the things that are related to buying a house, which aren't that exciting. Well, I'm on a flight to Hartford and since they have internet onboard (woot!) and since I'm out of things to do online, I decided to write now. I guess it's a case of taking what you can get...

First, I'm savoring the flavor of the Marlins being 3-0 this season, which is their best start since 1997 (when they won a World Series). I'm hoping this year I actually get to a game in Miami but the 3 hour drive is kind of an issue. Ideally there'd be a 4pm game on a weekend so I can drive in, see the game and leave Miami around 7ish and be home around 10. We'll see how that plan goes.

As I mentioned before we are buying the house and now trying to get the mortgage in order. One company is almost done but they need one more thing from us. We're also trying a different company to compare and see any difference, so we'll see where that goes. Once we have the mortgage, we'll be ready to go and because we don't quite have the mortgage yet, I'm not entirely convinced that we have the house yet because technically we can still pull out if we can't get mortgage rates that suit our needs.

We're on a flight to Hartford to celebrate Passover. Marissa and I are going to New York tomorrow to spend the day in the city at the Museum of Natural History and then it's off to Long Island for our passover seder. Technically passover starts right now but I don't think there's any matzah on the plane. Aside from the seder tomorrow, our only plans are to see the Heaths and spend time with my family. Should be a nice long weekend.

Speaking of Passover, I'm rebelling this year and allowing myself to eat certain food that is not typically kosher like rice or beans or other foods that make no sesne why they are not kosher for passover. It's my own personal fight for my principles.

Anywho, that's it for now. Hopefully I'll find the motivation to keep writing some more or at the very least post funny videos.

gym fun

Yesterday Marissa and I went to the gym to work out and it felt really good being there and getting back into the swing of working out. I'm sure it's the novelty value of the new gym but for now I'm not dreading it. Sure it sucks that by the time I get home it's like 7:30, but I need to "get back on the horse" and it's nice to do something together there. When I was there, I ended my workout on the elliptical and I was watching the new Superman movie. Well my workout ended but it was right in the good part but I kept going anyway so I probably burned another 100 calories or so because I didn't want to miss the good part. Hopefully next time I go there will also be something else interesting on TV to watch.

Speaking of the gym, one thing I know I should try is a class. They're offered and I hear good things about it but I've never done them before and I'm a little nervous about trying it out. What if I show up for some class and I'm like dead after 10 minutes and some grandma hasn't broken a sweat yet? Or there's the issue with the "gym jocks" that have all their own cool custom equipment and I show up with my walmart shorts.

happy new year....in hd!

As of yesterday I got the HD service all set up in our apartment and it actually works! After a quick call to Bright House to get them to actually turn on our service, it worked pretty well. I'm waiting on some HDMI cables to come in the mail so I can have a true HD picture (I'm using composite cables right now). Hopefully today after dinner we'll go to IKEA to buy an entertainment center so I can work on setting that up over the weekend and then finally have the entire television aspect of our apartment perfectly set up.

Tonight is New Years Eve and I think our plans are to relax at home. Marissa made a booze run last night and I suspect after we go to IKEA (if we do go), we'll sit in front of our new TV and have a few drinks and ring in the new year. Not exactly the most exciting thing you've ever heard, but we're a boring married couple. The days of going to overcrowded bars where it takes 15 minutes to get a drink for new years are well behind me.

Today is the last day of work this week, as I'm off tomorrow and Friday. No major plans for the weekend other than maybe putting together than entertainment center (assuming we buy it). I'm looking forward to a nice long weekend (again).
