Thanksgiving

back from CT

We have returned from a really nice weekend in Connecticut. I had a good time seeing family and getting away from it all for a few days. It was nice being at home and it definitely met my expectations for what I had wanted. We spent a lot of time with my family as well as with John and his family. I don't think Marissa is quite "comfortable" yet but she takes time to adjust and I think she'll eventually be more comfortable being there. She definitely had a good time, it's just a matter of actually feeling like one is home.

We did a lot of little things over the weekend. We drove to Long Island for Thanksgiving, where we encountered some typically nasty traffic going there. The meal itself was fine, although I'd much prefer if we had it in CT next year. I felt weird because everyone was wiped out after just one serving but I was going strong after 3. There definitely is a fat kid inside of me trying to get out. The other problem is my aunt's house is rather....spartan? So I felt anti-social if I wanted to go see the football game. The drive home was easy since most folks were eating and/or passed out.

The rest of the weekend we spent some time doing "the little things". Friday night we went to Mohegan Sun for dinner and that was Marissa's first time at the casino. She opted not to gamble and instead saved the money. I, however, was able to turn my $20 into $50 after I had a great run at the slots. Saturday night we went out to sushi, where I ate the most amount of sushi I've ever had in my life and it was fantastic. I had been craving sushi so much and it was wonderful having it again. Saturday night Marissa and I, John, Carrie, Mancini and Pete all went out to Margarita's for a few drinks and had a good time talking about high school. Marissa and Carrie, seeing as they did not go to our high school, just enjoyed the booze I suppose.

Sunday we went with my folks to Foxwoods for lunch at Fuddruckers, where I had the best buffalo burger ever! I may yet have dreams about that burger it was that good. After Marissa gambled for the first time and won a little, and hit the bonus game on every machine she played...it was unreal. Our flight home was delayed due to rain and the flight was very bumpy. So instead of landing around 9ish, we didn't get home until midnight.

All in all, it was a good weekend and I had a great time and it totally met my expectations for what I wanted. Not sure when our next trip to CT will be, but it was a pretty nice trip.

6 days until our cruise!

After work today, we're off to Connecticut for a long Thanksgiving holiday. Tomorrow we're going to Long Island for Thanksgiving dinner and after that we'll be spending our time going out to see friends or spend time with my family. Friday night we're going to Michael Jordan's Steakhouse at Mohegan Sun, which ought to be fun as Marissa has never been to the Steakhouse or the casino. We fly back Sunday night but it will be nice being up there, I think. The weather will be predictably cold, but no snow in the forecast. Tonight will be the first time since February that I've worn a coat.

I'm looking forward to some good food during Thanksgiving and loading up on turkey and everything else I can find. To everyone, have a happy Thanksgiving!

slow weekend ahead

It's Friday and that means it's time for the weekend! This weekend ought to be a little slow since Marissa is working both Saturday and Sunday so I'll be doing much of nothing. It's fine with me because I have some new games to play and going out usually involves spending money but it will suck not having her around in the long run. When I'm by myself for such a long time, I usually lose my social graces because I'm not used to communicating with other humans. Alas, I'll find a way.

To be honest, part of me actually wants to get past this weekend soon because I'm really looking forward to flying up to Connecticut for Thanksgiving. While I'm not looking forward to flying, I am excited to seeing the family and having a lot of great food. I think it will be a very nice time so I'm hoping for this weekend to hurry up :)

another boring weekend

Wish I had something fun and interesting to write here of stories from the weekend but I really don't. After work on Friday, Marissa and I went to the Turf Club for dinner with Josh and Sarah and had a good meal there and saw the shuttle launch, which was nifty. We had bolder ambitions to see the night launch from a better spot but dinner took longer than we thought and we had to settle for the spot we found. It was still cool to see, but next time we ought to get a better spot.

Saturday we basically hung around the apartment and did little of nothing. We ran a few errands but mostly sat at home and were mostly bored. I can handle sitting at home and doing nothing but I know it bothers Marissa, yet there really is not much to do if you don't want to spend any money so it's a difficult situation to be in. Marissa worked on Sunday so I spent my afternoon trying to get Battlefield 2 to work, as I had lost the CD and the game refused to work without it. Let's just say I was successful despite not finding the CD.

The big issue before us now is what to do about Thanksgiving. Rental car prices are just absurd and we're trying to figure out something that will be reasonable for a car rental. I looked into taxis but that was a joke so we're back to looking for a car rental under $200 for the 4 days. The problem is we are renting for 4 days and a weekend rental is only 3 days and a week rental is 5 days so we're in this stupid spot where there are no good deals.

20 days until the Disney Cruise!
