not proud?
So if you missed it, Adam Lambert, the runner up in this year's American Idol contest came out that he was gay. Personally, I don't care if he's gay or not. Not like it was a huge secret that he probably was. What bothers me, however, is that he decided to come out now. Throughout the whole competition he was asked if he was gay numerous times and never admitted it. Now that the competition is over, he admits just a few weeks after that he is gay. What that tells me is he isn't/wasn't proud to be gay and that he purposefully hid his sexual preferences during the competition because I think he knew if he came out during the competition, he would have no chance at winning since I'm sure many potential voters have a bias against gays (see entire bible belt of USA). So what I'm getting at is basically he wasn't proud of his gayness, hid it throughout the competition, and now when it's convenient, came out of the closet. At least it took Clay Aiken a few years before he admitted it but it just seems to me Lambert purposefully hid the truth in an attempt to win the competition. Instead of perhaps opening a great avenue for thought on the entire gay issue, he decided to hide from it until the coast was clear. Now more than ever, I'm glad Kris Allen won.
