time for my new PC

Yesterday I was playing Counter Strike and got annoyed as my video card kept crapping out on me and displaying the video poorly. Now, I knew my video card was suspect because a week or two ago I cleaned it out after realizing the fan was not spinning anymore due to dust. After I cleaned it and put it back in, it was working fine again but lately it was back to it's old tricks. So I opened up my computer case to discover....the fan had fallen out! Without the fan, the video card was overheating and I'd need a replacement. The issue with that is that the card type is a type that isn't in use anymore really. So rather than invest more money into a 4+ year old machine, I decided it was time to get me a new PC.

Before Marissa's PC went kaput a few months ago, I had ambitions to build myself a new PC but that went to the sidelines in favor of Marissa needing a PC. Well, now it's time to replace my computer which I built myself when I had just started working at UNH and it's been a real rock for me. Sure I've had issues over the years like anyone, but nothing major and I've been really happy with it. Alas, it's time has come and I need to replace it. I bought parts last night for a good base PC. It still needs some more RAM, a dedicated video card and a knick knack or two but all that I can wait for and buy over the span of the next few months as we get some extra cash to spend. I'm excited to put it together because this is going to be a very powerful machine for me. I'd like to convert my existing PC into a Tivo like device and keep it's usefulness going, but we'll see where that takes me.

It's been really cold down here, with temperatures the last two nights in the 20's and 30's and tonight it'll get down to 35. That is B-A-N-A-N-A-S but tomorrow and Saturday will have highs in the 70's so it can start to actually feel like Florida again.
